Cabernet Franc, an essential component of the great red wine blends of France’s Bordeaux region, prospers in the ancient alluvial soils, temperate climate and long growing season of our estate vineyard.
The Vintage
After a relatively dry winter, both budbreak and bloom came earlier than usual. The lower soil moisture meant that foliage growth was easily controlled and the grapes enjoyed ample sunshine during a beautiful summer with nearly ideal growing conditions. The cooler-than-usual weather in August and September slowed sugar accumulation resulting in typical harvest dates despite the early start to the season.
The Wine
Intriguing nose of red fruits, violets, and tree bark with sage. Lovely spice character, firm tannins graced by silky texture. Persistent finish with hints of dusty dark chocolate.
Food Affinities
Wonderful with wild mushroom pasta, grilled pork tenderloin, and fennel crusted salmon.
