The Vintage
After a relatively dry winter, both budbreak and bloom came earlier than usual. The lower soil moisture meant that foliage growth was easily controlled and the grapes enjoyed ample sunshine during a beautiful summer with nearly ideal growing conditions. The cooler-than-usual weather in August and September slowed sugar accumulation resulting in typical harvest dates despite the early start to the season.
The Wine
Our Late Harvest Riesling is left on the vine to develop botrytis cinerea, the “noble rot,” and then is harvested a full two months after our Dry Riesling. The juice inside each grape is reduced to a precious golden syrup.
Food Affinities
A dessert unto itself, this wine is divine with baked fruit desserts, using peaches, apricots or apples. For a lighter finish, enjoy with fruit and cheese.
