One of Napa Valley’s pioneering wineries, we have long championed estate grown wines that express the unique spirit of our land, vines, and people. Now in our third generation, the dedication of our family is manifest in every aspect of our operation, from the soil to the table, including sustainable farming, thoughtful winemaking, and gracious hospitality.
Family
Pioneers in the Napa Valley, the Trefethen family are champions of estate grown wines. For three generations, they have carefully tended to their land, employees, and customers, building a loyal following for their legacy of fine, age-worthy wines with a deep integrity of place.
The concept of family at Trefethen includes an “extended family” of employees. As a vertically integrated estate winery, all of our employees take great pride in the finished wines.
To honor our heritage, to remain pioneers in the Napa Valley, we must push forward. We continue to experiment, to operate on the frontier of our knowledge.
Trefethen membership offers you access to our limited-production estate wines, shipped to you four times a year. In addition, you will receive membership pricing on wines, complimentary tastings, special invitations to events, and more!
Philosophy
We believe in place, people, and the grape. Our joyous, unending task is to learn how to bring out the best in all three.
We think of our estate as one integrated ecosystem. We seek to build resilience into our entire operation, closing loops, and reducing our dependence on outside resources. Our goal is to farm a vineyard that takes care of itself.
It was no accident that the Napa Valley Cooking Class was hosted at Trefethen for 25 years. Or that when Julia Child visited Napa, Janet Trefethen was her host. Our wines are inextricably linked to cuisine.
Learning is cherished at Trefethen. An innate curiosity animates us as our pioneering spirit constantly pushes us forward into the unknown. Inquiry and understanding are central to our work, and the keys that unlock progress.
Place
As our sole source of grapes, our estate vineyards define our wines. Everything begins here.
Our Champion Tree and place of communion in the vineyard.
Our historic building has stood sentinel over Napa Valley’s vineyards for more than a century.
The old family home and our extensive vegetable garden are at the center of our wine and food experiences.
The exceptional AVA that we call home.
Families stay in touch.
We won’t forget to write.
